22 Celebrities Who Insured Their Body Parts For Millions

While most people fear body part insurance, celebrities have insured their body parts sometimes for millions of dollars.

The medical world has come up with many innovations over the years. One of these is that organ transplants can extend the lives of people who are suffering from a variety of maladies and diseases. But living donors aren’t always available. With the gap widening between supply and demand, insurance companies have seen an opportunity to offer “body part insurance.”

Whether it’s because of their career, obsession with posh accessories or a mere whim, many famous people have opted to insure certain body parts. Here are some celebrities who insured their most valuable asset – their body parts.

In today’s world, medical insurance is an important part of protecting your assets. Body parts insurance provides a means to help protect you financially if you suffer a loss to one or more body parts, such as:

  • Hand/wrist
  • Foot
  • Knee/ankle
  • Elbow
  • Shoulder
  • Finger/thumb
  • Eye
  • Breast
  • Heart
  • Lungs…ETC

There are plenty of celebrities who bet big on their body parts, or even had body parts insured. You might think this sounds silly, but it’s surprisingly a common thing for some people to do. But which well-known celebs had their body parts insured for millions? Read on below to learn about the celebrities who made this list.

What Is Body Parts Insurance?

Body parts insurance is a type of life insurance that covers the insured person’s body parts. The coverage can be purchased in small amounts, and the premiums are usually much lower than other types of life insurance.

Types of body parts insurance:

Partial disability – This type of coverage pays out a portion of your income if you become disabled due to an injury or illness. In most cases, partial disability coverage also includes lost wages from time off work while recovering from an injury or illness. Partial disability coverage is not available in all states and may not be available for all occupations.

Total disability – This type of coverage pays out an amount equal to your salary in full upon diagnosis with a qualifying disease or injury (e.g., cancer).

She graduated from La Cañada High School and then went on to study theater at UCLA. Ilja Gort’s nose – $5.58 million

Ilja Gort’s nose is insured for $5.58 million, according to Lloyd’s of London.

The 31-year-old Russian model’s nose was insured after he had an accident while working as a stuntman on a film set in 2009. It took surgeons three operations to repair his nose and they were not able to use an implant due to the scars on his face.

Gort has since starred in campaigns for Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss and even appeared in music videos for Snoop Dogg and Rihanna. He also appeared in the 2011 film “In Time.”

Mr Gort said: “If you had told me a year ago that I would be getting into a car accident and having my nose insured for $5 million dollars, I would have thought you were crazy.”

Mariah Carey’s legs – $1 billion

Singer Mariah Carey insured her legs for $1 billion, according to The Sun.

Carey joined a growing list of stars who have taken out insurance on their body parts.

The Sun reported that the 45-year-old singer is believed to have taken out the cover in case she suffers an injury that prevents her from performing at Glastonbury Festival or other similar events.

“Mariah has made a fortune from her incredible voice and she knows all too well how much damage a serious injury could do,” a source told The Sun. “She has been performing since she was just five years old and enjoys working hard so it makes sense for her to take out this kind of policy.”

“Insurance companies will pay a lot of money for high-risk celebrities,” Lloyd’s broker Mike Fusco told the publication. “For example, if you have a policy on Mariah Carey’s legs and she breaks her leg, they would pay out maybe $10 million or $20 million.”

Carey previously insured her legs in 2014 but had to take out a new policy after her first one expired. She reportedly took out a $1 billion policy on her feet in 2015 as well.

Carey’s insurance company will pay out $1 billion if she breaks any bones in her lower body during a performance or other event covered by the policy.”

Julia Roberts’s smile – $30 million

Julia Roberts is an incredibly talented actress, but her smile is what has helped her become one of the most famous women in the world. The star’s megawatt grin was insured for $30 million by Lloyd’s of London. Though this may seem like a lot, there are several other celebrities whose smiles are worth more than hers.

Julia Roberts is one of the most bankable actresses in Hollywood, having made more than $3 billion worldwide at the box office. In 2008, a judge awarded her $30 million in damages after her former boyfriend and dentist allegedly damaged her teeth while trying to whiten them.

Jennifer Lopez – insured her butt for $27 million

Jennifer Lopez is one of the most famous singers in the world and she is also known for her beautiful body. The singer has insured her butt for $27 million. She has said that she needs to have a perfect butt to perform on stage, so she wants to make sure that she will never lose it.

Lopez, who is reportedly worth $250 million, is one of five people in the world to have insured their behinds.

The singer has a history of risk-taking that includes a high-profile divorce from singer Marc Anthony and an embarrassing nip slip at the Grammy Awards back in 2000.

“The premium on my booty alone is $1 million,” Lopez told the Daily News. “If I get butt implants, it doubles.”

“It’s a smart move,” said Steve Lewis, a spokesman for Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty Insurance, which in December released its annual list of the top 10 celebrity body parts insured by the company. “The more famous you are, the more expensive it would be to replace these things in case they were damaged or lost.”

The company has been insuring body parts since 2000 and has seen a dramatic increase in interest over the last few years because celebrities have become more savvy about how much their image is worth and how much money can be made from licensing their image for movies or commercials, according to Lewis.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s legs – $144 million

The Portuguese footballer’s legs were insured for $144 million with Lloyd’s of London, following an injury during the FIFA World Cup. The policy would pay out if Ronaldo were to suffer a career-ending injury like David Beckham did in 2007. According to ESPN, it was renewed every year for five years before being cancelled in 2016.

Ronaldo, a five-time FIFA player of the year, in 2020 became the first active team-sport athlete to surpass $1 billion in career earnings.

David Beckham’s legs (and face) – $195 million

David Beckham is arguably one of the most famous football players in the world, as well as a successful businessman and model. His fame comes not only from his achievements on the pitch but also from his good looks. He was voted sexiest man alive by People magazine in 2013 and has graced many magazine covers since then, including GQ and Esquire.

His success off the pitch has helped him earn millions of dollars of endorsements and sponsorships, including Armani, H&M and Samsung. The multi-millionaire has also been involved in some very lucrative advertising campaigns with brands like PepsiCo, Vodafone and Adidas.

Beckham was born in London on May 2nd 1975, where he grew up with his family until he moved to Manchester United at age 11. He played for Manchester United between 1992 and 2003 before moving to Real Madrid for four seasons, followed by a six-month loan spell with LA Galaxy in 2011 before returning to Europe to play for AC Milan for two years before retiring from football at the end of 2013.

The David Beckham era ended prematurely when he suffered a torn ligament in his right ankle during Manchester United’s game against Deportivo La Coruna on May 23, 2007. He underwent surgery and was sidelined for six months but later signed a new five-year contract with Real Madrid worth $125 million.

Kim Kardashian is one of the most popular reality stars in the world, but also one of the most famous people overall. She has also insured her body parts for $10 million, but only because she wants to make sure that she will never lose them. She said that she thinks that it’s important for women to feel good about themselves and their bodies, especially in this day and age when everybody is always talking about how they don’t look like they used to look or what not.

The report claims Kim’s derriere is valued at $10 million through Lloyd’s of London.

While there is no word on how much money she would receive in the event her bum was injured or even stolen, Lloyd’s of London did confirm they had covered the reality star.

Jennifer Aniston – insured her breasts for $1 million.

Jennifer Aniston insured her breasts for $1 million. She has always been conscious about her image and wanted people to know that she took care of herself. So after having surgery to reduce her bust size from 34C to 33B in 1999; she decided that she would like to protect them by insuring them for a million dollars each! She also insured her legs for $1 million each but claims that they are not as valuable because they have been ‘battered’ by years of exercise and running around on set!

Madonna – Insured her breast  $2 million

Madonna has insured her breast for $2 million. She is considered to be the queen of pop music, so this is not a surprise.

The insurance company Lloyd’s of London did not provide any details about the policy when asked by The Times of London newspaper. But it has been reported that she had bought a £1 million policy in 1992 when she was pregnant with daughter Lourdes and again in 1997 when she was expecting son Rocco.

A Lloyd’s spokesman said: “We are not allowed to talk about individual cases.”

Gennaro Pelliccia’s insured taste buds – $13.3 million

Gennaro Pelliccia’s took out a policy in 2006 to cover his taste buds, which are insured for $13.3 million.

Pelliccia, a chef from Naples, did this because he’s afraid of losing his sense of taste due to his profession

Citing health reasons, he took out the policy with Lloyd’s of London and has since lost over half of his taste buds. He said: “I was born with a defect on my tongue and palate, which means I cannot taste any food whatsoever.”

Pelliccia told The Sun that he loves to cook and wants to keep cooking even when his taste buds have gone bad.

“I’m a chef so I cook with my hands,” he said in an interview with The Sun. “If I lose my taste buds then what’s going to happen?”

He added: “I thought it would be funny if I put it on eBay because people might think it was a joke.”

Daniel Craig’s entire body – $9.5 million

In the most recent James Bond film, Spectre, Daniel Craig is seen to be heavily insured against injury during filming. The insurance is believed to be for the duration of his contract and in the region of $9.5 million. It covers him for injuries sustained while performing action scenes, as well as accidents that occur while he is not on set (such as falling down stairs). It is thought that this is not just for stunts but also for special effects, as there are many scenes where Craig appears to be injured but isn’t actually doing anything too risky.

Daniel Craig’s first contract to play James Bond was worth $7 million, but it seems to have been money well spent. Craig is now the highest paid actor at the moment, taking in over $100 million thanks to Netflix.

Holly Madison’s insured her  chest – $1 million

The former Playboy model is taking no chances when it comes to what she calls her “most precious asset.”

In addition to the $1 million she has insured her breasts for, she took out a life insurance policy worth $2 million on them. The insurance was taken out by Lloyd’s of London.

When she left the Playboy Mansion in 2008, she had breast implants and they were removed in 2010. She told PEOPLE that they were replaced with new ones in 2012 after she was diagnosed with a benign growth on one of her breasts.

She said she got the surgery because “I wanted them to be symmetrical and perfect.”

She told People magazine that she has sometimes been insecure about her body because of her implants. “I have always hated my nose and my boobs are fake so I’ve never had that sense of confidence like I am now.”

She was Hugh Hefner’s girlfriend for seven years and was regularly featured on the reality TV show “The Girls Next Door.

She said her decision was based on health reasons and not because she had any regrets about working as a Playboy model or being part of the Girls Next Door reality show with Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt.

Rihanna’s insured her gams – $1 million

Rihanna is taking no chances when it comes to her legs. The singer has reportedly insured her legs for $1 million.

The “Diamonds” singer reportedly took out the policy with Lloyd’s of London, according to the Daily Mirror.

In case you didn’t know, Lloyd’s of London is a famous insurance market that sells a variety of different insurance policies. It was founded in 1688 and is based in London. This isn’t the first time that Lloyd’s has insured celebrities’ body parts: Michael Jackson had his signature hairstyle insured for $1 million in 1997

Apparently Rihanna thinks her legs are worth more than just about anyone else’s. She probably wouldn’t be wrong either. Her legs are almost as famous as she is!

Keith Richard’s insured hands – $1.6 million

Keith Richards, guitarist and vocalist of The Rolling Stones, is one of the most celebrated musicians in the world. His distinctive riffs and iconic style have been a defining factor in rock music for decades.

He has an insurance policy on his hands for $1.6 million by Lloyd’s of London. The insurance policy is to protect him if he  injured his hands while performing.

According to his daughter, Angela Richards, her father doesn’t even know that he is insured because it’s done through his manager’s office. She says that they don’t let him know about it because they don’t want him to get too cocky!

Jamie Lee Curtis insured leg $2.8

Jamie Lee Curtis has insured her legs with Lloyd’s of London for $2.8 million. The actress, who is married to actor Christopher Guest, said she took out the policy after being told that it was a good idea by her agent. She told People magazine: “My agent said, ‘You should insure your legs.’ I said, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Yeah, you can insure them for million dollars.’ So I did.”

The policy covers Ms Curtis’ legs for any injury or illness that prevents her from working. It also covers her for injuries suffered during filming or performing stunts and requires her to wear high heels at all times in public.

Tina Turner insured her leg for $3.2 million.

There is a famous story about Tina Turner and her insurance policy. The legendary singer had insured her legs for $3.2 million dollars. It was said that she did this to protect them from being injured in a car accident. This way, if they were injured, she would have enough money to have them surgically repaired and/or replaced. Turner’s legs were insured with Lloyd’s of London

Tiger Woods insured his legs for $10 million.

The golfer has taken out a policy on his limbs in case he ever needs to have an operation on them.

A source told The Sun: “Tiger is a perfectionist and wants to be able to walk again without any problems. He knows that if he had an operation it would affect his golf game for months afterwards, so he wants to protect himself financially.”

Another source added: “No one would expect such a high figure for something as mundane as a leg injury, but Tiger is worth hundreds of millions and could afford it.”

Robert Downey Jr. insured his arms for $1 billion each

Robert Downey Jr. is one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood, and now he wants to make sure his hands are protected.

The actor has insured his arms for $1 billion each, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Downey’s rep told THR that the actor had been making fun of the idea of insurance for body parts, but when he heard about other stars who had done it, he decided to go through with it.

The policy is reportedly a part of his standard rider contract and will kick in if one or both hands are injured during filming or in public appearances.

Downey Jr. is one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors, according to Forbes magazine, with an estimated pre-tax income of  over $80 million.

But he’s not just famous for his acting skills; he’s also well known for being a bit accident-prone on set. In 2008, he broke his ankle while performing a stunt on the set of Iron Man 2, which delayed production by several weeks as he recovered from surgery.

In March 2016, he injured his hand while filming Captain America: Civil War but continued shooting despite having a broken finger until it healed completely during post-production.

In February 2018, Downey Jr., fractured his leg while filming the upcoming Avengers film in Atlanta — although he was able to make light of the incident by posting a video on Instagram showing him walking around on crutches with just one shoe on and joking that he’d “done some damage.”

A spokesperson for Lloyd’s of London confirmed that GQ had bought the policy on Robert Downey Jr.’s arms.

Nicki Minaj insured her legs $2 million

Nicki Minaj has insured her body part.

Nicki Minaj has revealed that she has insured her legs for $1 million.

The ‘Anaconda’ singer took to Twitter to share a photo of herself in a tight black dress with a caption that read: “My legs are insured for $1 million dollars,” followed by three laughing emojis.

Minaj’s tweet comes after she was pictured wearing a short skirt and high heels for an appearance on American Idol. In the image, which was shared by Entertainment Tonight, the rapper’s knee-high boots can be seen peeking out from underneath her skirt as she walks up steps towards the judges’ table at the Los Angeles auditions for the singing competition show.

The ‘Starships’ hitmaker’s legs have been insured numerous times over the years after she initially revealed her policy during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in 2014.

The rapper, took out $2 million (£1.5 million) insurance on her legs

The policy covers her legs for any “accidental loss or damage,” according to The Sun.

Minaj is also said to have taken out a $1 million (£750,000) policy on her breasts last year.

The “Super Bass” singer reportedly took out the policy with Lloyd’s of London

Lady Gaga – insured her legs for $1 million

Lady Gaga is another celebrity who has been known as someone who loves showing off her body and wearing very provocative outfits on stage or in public places. She has insured both of her legs for $1 million each because she thinks that they are very important

The singer, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Germanotta, is said to be considering a career in the boxing ring and is taking no chances with her limbs.

Insurance brokers Gallagher told TMZ that the singer had taken out a policy for “up to $1 million” on each leg, which would pay out $500,000 if she broke or fractured an ankle or knee.

Gaga’s legs have been insured by Lloyd’s before – when she performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2015, she had a $25 million policy on her legs because of all the high-flying stunts involved with that performance.

According to a recent article in Insurance Journal, Lady Gaga is insured for $100 million in total coverage. This figure includes $1 million on her legs and other body parts.

The article goes on to explain that this type of coverage isn’t uncommon in the entertainment industry and can often be required by promoters or venues in order to appear at certain events.

The question most people have when they hear about these types of policies is: “Why would anyone need insurance for their legs?”

The answer is simple…they don’t! It’s just one more way that insurance companies can make money off of celebrities who want to perform their craft.

Weirdest things celebrities have insured

Donald Trump has insured his hair against loss from any form of electrocution! And he’s not alone…

Rihanna has insured her head AGAINST BEING BURNED OFF HER HEAD! Her bizarre policy even covers being set alight while she sleeps…

Jennifer Lopez has insured both her legs AND feet, meaning they need replacing if she ever loses them! Her insurance company would replace them after three days without blood supply, but Jennifer wouldn’t wait that long…

Kate Winslet has insured her eyesight, meaning if she gets cataracts, her glasses are replaced instantly!

Beyonce has covered herself against getting hit by flying objects – including bullets, falling objects and shrapnel.

Kim Kardashian has taken out insurance against having to wear uncomfortable clothing thanks to her ‘booty’ becoming bigger than expected.

While these celebrities may have taken things a bit overboard with their body part insurance, they’re definitely not the first people to insure a single body part. In fact, you probably know someone who has purchased life insurance to cover themselves if they were to lose a particular body part (e.g., foot, ear, finger).

So, is this insurance worth the millions that celebrities fork over for it? That is an interesting question. While it’s likely that their bank accounts would take a hit in the short term, many life insurance companies will provide them with enough money to be comfortable in the long run.

In the end, these celebrities have just spent a small fraction of their money to have a lot of security. Most people can’t even imagine spending so much on an insurance policy, but when there is a chance that you might lose a part of your body, you’d be willing to spend more than you’d earlier imagined.
